Our nearest town with an interesting history

Cullompton is our closest town and where our nearest supermarkets are located.

It’s location on the River Culm meant that Cullompton was famous for it’s cloth and paper mills.  You can find out about the cloth trade and it’s importance to the town by following the town centre trail.  It is an ancient market town and the Bull Ring in the centre of the town is a wide open area where markets would have been held.  Cullompton Farmers Market is held here.  There are some beautiful half timbered buildings in the centre of the town, including the Manor House Hotel.

The Walronds is an historic house with a large garden and is now a community space.  It dates back to the 1500s and has been beautifully restored. The garden is open to the public all year round.

St Andrew’s Church is considered to be one of the finest parish churches in England. It has some interesting architectural features.

Things to do near Cullompton

The nearby village of Willand is home to Diggerland, a construction themed adventure park and one of only four in the UK. It makes an ideal day out for all ages. Pop into reception for a 25% off pay on the day admission voucher.

Coldharbour Mill in Uffculme, just a short drive from Cullompton, is a working woollen mill with a museum, shop and cafe. It offers a fascinating insight into the workings of a mill, of which there would once have been many along the river Culm. It is one of the oldest woollen mills in the country and has been in continuous production since 1797.

Places to eat and drink

There is a choice of places to eat and drink in Cullompton, as well as several take aways.

The Bakehouse is a busy cafe bar right in the centre of Cullompton. They serve breakfasts, coffees and snacks and lunches.

The Weary Traveller is a family-run pub with plenty of parking on the edge of Cullompton. They serve food throughout the week and offer a Sunday carvery, but booking is essential. Friday night is live music night.

The Merry Harriers, just outside Cullompton on the old Exeter road, is a traditional English pub with a good selection of craft ales and has a varied menu including pub favourites.
